Conceptual Process Development and Modelling of Novel and Sustainable Technologies to high value chemicals

Traditionally, light olefins are prepared by steam cracking of condensates, naphtha or the like. Dow is actively developing new technologies which can make use of alternative feedstocks for the production of light olefins. Some of these technologies are based on the conversion of synthesis gas (‘syngas’), which can be produced from natural gas, coal, biomass or waste (plastic). When looking at new technologies, this is typically accompanied with conceptual process development, focusing on comparing and integrating technologies within existing unit operations. We therefore look for a student with modelling and engineering skills. The work will focus on the development of main process key performance indicators, high level techno-economic sensitivity analyses and identification of integration opportunities.
